The kit is $600, it adds 30 cubes. You don't bore the engine for the extra cubes, the stoke is longer... STROKER... get it?

But I believe there is some machine work/ balancing that must be done that drives up the cost. Try a search it's been discussed in detail.

Aight, *** knows I should know some of this, since I've been looking at stroker kits for 3 months now.
What comes in a stroker kit? First it depends on where it comes from, some places include the little extras, some are just bone stock kits.
The basic kit comes with a 400 crank, pistons, connecting rods, bearings and piston rings. If you get one with extras, a harmonic balancer and flexplate for a 400 and all the gaskets are included.
As for extra balancing and labor, the pistons and rods need to be balanced with eachother, which costs extra, and a harmonic balancer and flexplate are required. Generally, the pistons are .030 oversized, so the cylinders must be bored, and the block will have to be clearanced for the oversized crank. Soooo, you are talking quite a bit of machine work and parts for just a 305. It's a cute idea I guess, but I'm stroking the 350 to be a 383, and it's costing me about the same amount of money.
just somethin to think about.

And for the 305 stroking "PURISTS" i'm to the point to say F OFF. I don't care if it's novel, special, different, whatever. You pay more for the kit and work than you'd pay for a 350, a kit and the work. And no, I still can't tell a 305 from a 350 from a quick peek under the hood.... I can see a 8" external balancer now adays though. And if you think your 33x has enough oats, bring it on.... You musta paid way to much...
A good strocker kit will come with a internally balance crankshaft, and some 400 rods (I think that they are 5.7 off the top of my head) There is no point in stroking your 305, and boring it to a 350 to get your 383 is not worth it because if you dont hit water the thin bore walls will resonate, toast your pistons. Look for a 350 block from a 'yard. Bore and hone, and and transfer all of your internals of your 305 with your new, balanced pistons, rods and crank. You will have a good engine, you may want to port the stock heads to take advantage of the new cubes.
