Am i running slow?
I dont really have much to compare my car with maybe some on e could tell me if im running about where i should be its a almost stock 85 305 with an edelbrock 600cfm and a weiand intake with 1" spacer.other then that its stock, all the emissions crap has ben taken off and the air holes plugged.my car tops off at around 100mph and 4500 rpms is this pretty much where it should be?

I don't know what my top end was but my motor petered out past 4500. It was strong from idle to 4500 where I would shift by the time it slipped into next gear I was at 5000rpm and head was hitting the windsheild from lack of momentum. Just put a new cam into today not the one I wanted (got too damn excited). Maiden voyage I came back mad as hell. Sounded better but was no faster, maybe slower than factory cam. The card said power was from 2200-5200. So we jacked timing up some more and took it to the hwy. Out of the box gutless then from 2200 to 5000 where I shifted she pulled. My stall should be here next week and I'll be installing the Transgo shift deal. So if stall doesn't help I know it's the gears-right now I'm running 3.42 and I think stepping up to the 3.73 will work better with my combo. I'm still not done tweaking with timing or carb yet, but man when you spent 9 hours ripping a motor down to nothing and put it back together it'd be nice to have some kind of payoff. By the way cam is only 224 duration and .447 lift with 109 lobe separation-was gonna get the 234 duration .488 lift and 114 lobe separation

I got the full tube headers and true duals-at the track my best was a 14.86 (on the brakes) with a 2.06 60 foot time. We were all impressed with the little road ***** putting up ok numbers so I'm just playing with it to see what a person can tweak out of a stock 305 in a car like ours. The 383 going in this summer after I get rest of car ready for it. Right now from the way it feels I'll be lucky to hit high 15's, man that stall has to help or else new motor will be coming prematurely.

Whats your rear end gear ratio? 100 w/ 4500 rpm? Is it in 5th gear (manual) or OD (auto)? Count your gear changes if its auto, you may have to let off the gas to get it into OD if it's auto

Well, autos hate getting into 4th gear....well, not hate, but theres a valve that prevents you from getting into 4th at anything more than maybe 1/4 throttle. So what you have to do is max out 3rd, back way off the pedal until you hear it shift, and very slowly push down on the pedal and slowly rev up 4th gear.....I did this once....Thanks Cody and the SWMG spring 2001! Wishi I coulda gone this year, hope to see ya'll in the fall!
Anyways, theres a "police" valve you can get for the tranny that fixes this "problem"
The other reason for slow speed coul be rear end gears. If you've got 4.10's in there, you'll get to your top speed hella fast, but don't expect it to be much....maybe like 120@5500 rpm or so. You can tell yur ratio, sorta by jacking up the back of the car, chalk a mark on the drive shaft, spin the wheels one revolution, count the number of driveshaft revolutions. Thats your gear ratio.
Now, if it is the first case, don't go getting yourself killed by going too fast! lol
have fun
