Water In Gas Tank??sypmtoms??

I just got a gas tank from a junk yard and it till had some liquid in it and had in installedalong with a new fuelpump,now it backfires detonates under load,I put some water remover in it,the mechanic said it would take a few tank fulls of gas to clean it out,it is drivable but barely,any suggestions,could I syphon out the tank my self??
I am trying to sell this car and no one will buy it like this,also it willl rev in park or neutral pretty ell but when i put it in drive it wont above like 3500 rpm....any idea guys im stumped here also a new fuel filter was just installed today.....

UROCU,

Drain all the fuel from that tank that you possibly can, siphon if necessary. Water can ruin fuel injectors post haste. You had better plan on changing the fuel filter very soon as well, since all of th esediment in the used tank is now packing in your filter. There was likely a lot of rust and scale loosened when the tank was removed, handled, and installed.

Maybe you'll want to have another spare filter on hand just in case.
