Got A Weird One
Ok guys, this one's got me....
World Products Sportsman II's, I just built up the block when it came grinding to a hault when I couldn't get my CTS in there for my tpi. So reading WP's site I run out and get a 1/2 - 3/8NPT adapter...
Bring it back, well the CTS fits in it perfect, but it slides right into the passage for it, without even threading (to small). So I bring it back and I hand thread it as far as it can go (CTS) and it takes about 1-2 threads, Then i get a wrench and start goin at it thinking being brass the sensor will give before the heads, Well it threads in about 2-3 threads (give or take) and it starts offering enough resistance to worry a little, So i back it out and the first thread is STARTING to lay over itself (cross threading?) Now there's no way the WP's are metric, but they dont seem to be NPT, so is something way off, Am I crazy, Or is this by design? Maybe the tight tappered fit is for a super tight seal???
Please give any info as I'd like to get passed this one last annoying hitch and drive the dam.n thing!

NPT is a pipe thread, no?

thats what WP lists the sensor hole to be, but the sensor only goes in 2-3 threads then starts to fold the 1st thread over, maybe its tapered and supposed to? I dunno, but its certainly weird and DEFFINATLY hindering progress.

oh, i didn't know what NPT meant, some of your acronyms sound like military talk!
pipe threads are supposed to tighten up like that, that's what makes them seal. They do go in more than 2 or 3 threads though, I'm sure you've experienced a pipe thread. Don't try and reef the thing in if it is ruining threads. could you tighten it as far as it will willfully go and try it to see if it leaks?

What's a cts? You talkin about the coolant temp sensor? If you used a npt pipe bushing (adaptor) it should work right unless you cross thread it. It will definitely go in more than 2 or 3 threads.
I didn't use an adapter, I tried to because of how it threaded funny, but as is (installed) there's no adapter, just straight in
