T56 swap, what center console to use?
I'm planning to swap a T56 in place of my 700R4 in a few weeks, and I'm wondering which center console to use. Should I get one from a T5, or can I use one from a 4th gen? If I do get a 4thgen one, how much do I have to modify it to make it fit? And will an LS1 console work? Where would I put the window switches? If anyone here has done any of these and has pics, please post 'em!
Definitely get the LS1 car console. Actually, a 97 may be the same as the 98+, but the 98+ design is the one you want. It attaches the same way the thirdgen console. The 93-96 (and I don't know which way 97 was) attach differently, and are suckier anyway. Oh, and it has to be a manual trans console. Search the body/interior board; every week someone asks if a 4th gen console will fit in a 3rd gen.
I used my old 3rd gen console w/ a manual trans shifter plate + boot. Looks totally factory. The plate and boot were $25 from TVP here on the boards.
If you can get the later-model console for a reasonable price and it fits as mentioned, I'd go that route.
