Stock heads
Stock heads
Thinking about heads for my ride. would it be a big difference to have my stock heads ported or just get the wold s/r 305 heads. Also is it possoble to change the valves to 194/150s. If so what else needs to be changed. 60,000 miles on engine. Thanks
Just my opinion, but paying for someone to port your stock heads is probably not money well spent. By the time you purchase new 1.94" intake valves, pay for the seat enlargement, and porting of the runners, you may be better off buying aftermarket heads.
If you perform the machining yourself, however, you can make some very good flows with stock heads at very low cost. It wouldn't be difficult at all to make better flowing 305 heads than you can purchase outright, but would be expensive to pay for the labor to do it correctly.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't really priced what a porting would cost but it sounds like it is expensive. Maybe I should just go for the S/R heads. Still have a couple of months to make the final call.
