Homemade AC delete?
Homemade AC delete?
Ok, I am seriously planning on dropping my LT1 into my 86 Iroc this summer, and I want to remove all my AC equipment from the car. Now I know a factory heater/AC box (in the engine compartment) on non AC cars is rare, but I heard that one from an S10 pickup will fit perfectly (or slightly modified maybe) anyone do or try this? I want it to look clean and factory on the firewall after removal, no holes. I already added the 1LE AC delete pulley to my LT1. And getting rid of the car's Ac would make the swap go easier, and make plug changes simpler. In fact I see no negatives to doing this at all, I don't use the AC anyway (kept throwing belts so I just left the belt off the compressor).

Nope! I went to the j-yard and tried it. It's about the same shape and may be "MADE" to work, but it didn't match up right and the bolt pattern is different. Too much mods to be 'easy'
I like the idea I saw that one guy did on here by cutting the evaporator protrusion off and glueing a piece of plastic over the opening.

I guess it depends on where you live, but here in Nevada you gotta have it! I used today as a matter of fact. People take a look and my engine and go "This thing still has A/C ?!?!?!?" Umm yeah... why take it off if it works? lol

LOL, people who have AC will always come on to a post about removing it and defend it! The question isn't "should I remove it?"
I have removed mine, I don't see the ac control panel a problem by not removing it but I agree about the ac and heater box under the hood. Looks unfinished having the cut up plastic left there

I used a heater box out of a s-10. Only like 1 bolt or maybe 2 lined up, but I just drilled new holes for the other ones. It looks so much better now. You could always try to find a thirdgen with AC delete which is kinda hard, but there is at least a dozen s-10s at the yards. I would just try to pick up a AC delete box out of a s-10 and try it. Mine was only like $15.

So any year S10 will work, cause I got a horrible mess with that empty AC box there and it would make changing plugs a lot easier.

Re: Homemade AC delete?
i removed my a/c about a year ago and got an "a/c delete firewall box" for 82-92 camaros from hawksthirdgen.com ,its a clean looking smooth box that gos in place of the old one, fits perfectly, looks factory, and frees up a bunch of space,it comes with a hole already cut in it for your blower motor incase you want to keep the heater part of your a/c,only down side to this box is you have to drill your own holes for the bolts on the firewall and for the screws that hold your blower motor(if you drill them slightly smaller than the actual bolt you wont have a problem)...anyway hope this helps.
