Anyone ever have their starter grind while the engine is turning over? (I know how to start the dang thing) but sometimes when I go to start it my starter grinds while the engine is first cranking over. What gives?

 

Check the positive cable that goes to your power acc. ground right next to the battery.. See if that connection is solid. Its a Longshot but hey.........

 

Mine has done that twice, the first time when I let someone else drive it for a minute, then he just gave me bad luck and I did it after he did. I didn't let it crank long enough, and it didn't take, then i tried again and it made that AWFUL grinding noise... Never had it happen again.

 

Consider the possibility of a worn starter gear, or misalignment of the starter from either loose bolts or missing shims.
