Starting Problems!!!!!
Starting Problems!!!!!
I bought my 91 RS about a year and a half ago. I've been having problems starting it since then. I thought it was vats, and it was part of the problem cause I did the secutiry light check and I fixed that problem with a resistor and it worked for a while, but there is still another problem somewhere. I turn the key and nothing at all happens. I have a wire hooked up to the starter that I touch on the battery positive with the switch on and it starts. Do I have a problem with the wiring or maybe my ignition switch. Any help would be greaty appreciated.

is that wire u are talking about always connected to your stater? if not then that is your problem. the starter needs the power from the battery to turn over.
That wire is a wire I put on the starter when I couldn't get it started. When it won't start I get that wire and touch it on the positive and it starts. Its like I'm bypassing the starter or something.

disregard your HELP wire so to speak. look and see if there is another wire going from the starter to the battery. sounds like u dont have one. does it start when the key is turned off with your HELP wire. if not the i would just bolt up that HELP wire to the battery cable and then u should be fine. just dont bolt it up if itll start in the off position cuz that would be an oops.
I touched the HELP wire to the battery with the key off and it turned over. I checked for a wire going from the starter to the (+) battery and there is like a 4 or 6 gauge wire. I wish I had a wiring diagram to know where to start check for 12 volts to see if its getting to the ignition switch or Neutral switch or not. This problem is really getting to me.
Well, I frigged around some and got it started. I checked the starter relay and I was getting 12V one the big yellow wire, but nothing on the big tan/white wire.I bought a new starter enable relay last year and well I went and checked that while ago and there was some water on the inside of the relay and some rust, I have no idea how the water got in the relay box, but anyways I put my old one back in and the car starter. I hope it starts everytime from now on. Thanx for the help, might need it again if she don't start.
