burning water plz hlp
I have a 87 GTA L98 with 95K, lingenfelter thotle body, slp runners, full msd ignition. I've had it for about 2 mounths and it has run great. The only thing wrong is it burns a little oil when I start it from the valves. Then all of sudden it stalls I try to start it and it won't run for more than a couple of seconds. I have to rev it to keep it running but it dies eventually. It burns white smoke when it is running. Everything looks normal from the outside and there is no water in the oil. I'm guessing it is a head gasket but I am not shure. Is there anything else it could be, is there water in the intake. Has anybody else had a problem like this.
Thanx

if the smoke is WHITE then yeah, its probably a head gasket. or a cracked block....lets just hope its the gasket right?
But make sure that the smoke is just pure white, not blue or anything in there.

Oh yeah, could be an intake manifold gasket too.
I had a chunk of gasket come out near back of left head. Allowed #7 intake to suck water from water passage behind it.
Happend at high speed right as I let off the gas. It was quite spectacular. Tons of white smoke out the back.
I was looking like one of those NASCAR guys when their motor lets go.
That eng had survived some pretty seroius overheating before. Gasket was cooked when I had to remove it.
Replaced gasket and eng went another 100K miles.

took my '89 RS into the shop 'cuz it was blowing white smoke (normally only on start-up), to have the valve seals done. Turns out I had a crack through to the water jacket in one of the chambers whcih was obviously "burning water" as well.
