New Car, have questions

hey guys. My name is Damien Hazelton and I have a few questions I hoped you could answer. I just bought a 91 GTA and am new to the TPI and computer system. Here are a few:

Like I said my car is a 91 350 GTA and I am wondering what the stock convertor lock-up mph is? Mine locks at 48 mph. To tell you the truth I am trying to figure out if my car has an aftermarket or personally burned prom in it. I can tell the car has had some work done ie: the coil is mounted all the way over on the drivers side fenderwell. Thats about a 2 1/2 foot coil wire. I know thats not right. Then they have wires coming from the coil splicing into the O2 sensor. It has a lit more spliced wires too. There is a plug in on the front end that has a fuse plugged into it. Then there is the connector coming off the battery and has a lot of spliced wires that I can't seen to figure out. Any input?

My car is set up about 1" in the front and about 4: in the back. Is there any advantage to this? I have already set it back down. Looks better!

The engine has the number 638 formed into it on both sides of the block. any idea?

My service eng. soon light comes on al the time but only after I am down the road a few miles. Car runs fine. I know I can make a jumper and connect the 6 & 12 ( I think) and get a code somehow. I just don't know what to do after that?

My car never runs over 145 degrees. I think it may have a 160 degree therm in it and have heard horrer stories about that. Something like it makes the cold start sensor screw up and the car not run right. Car does run pretty rough cold.

What is the widest tire I can get on the back? tire number if you know it

how much will an aftermarket torque bar do for me on the quarter mile?

I know I have more questions but can't think of them right now. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Drive on
Damien.....

Welcome aboard,
The TC LU seems about right.
As far as the temp, I sense a faulty gauge or sending unit. A 180* stat works the best with computers. A car even with a 160* won't run below 160*.

Thanks. It could be a faulty temp. gauge. The tach kinda jumps around also. Keep the info commin.

Drive on..........

Wires from the coil to the O² sensor? It sounds like someone tried to power up a heated O² from whatever source they could find, but chose a poor one. That could explain the tachometer problem. As for the lockup, the stock lockup setting should have been in the 40's. 48MPH may be stock on a later GTA - I'm not sure of the exact point. If you suspect an aftermarket PROM, pop the cover on the ECM and take a peek.
