Grounding fan switch wire.

If I ground the single wire going into the fan switch on the passenger side cylinder head in between the #6 and #8 cylinders, should my fans turn on? Because they dont.

Just trying to save $$ and not bring it in.

If it's a single wire (I can't remember off hand), it should be grey, you can ground it to turn on the fan. The schematic I practically memorized (which is for my 2 fan system) has 3 paths to ground for the fan. One is in the ECM, one is in that temp switch in the head, the last is in the pressure switch on the A/C line. When you ground the grey wire, it completes a circuit that energizes a relay (located on the driver's side corner of the engine on my car) which turns on the fan. If the relay is bad, or the fusible link is blown (the orange wire), grounding the grey wire won't make a difference.

My car has 3 relays there, actually. Two for the fans and I have no clue what the third one is for. It'll have 4 or 5 wires coming out of it. Mine has grey, brown, orange, and I can't remember the last one. It's a 1 inch by 1 inch by 3 inch unit. Yours could be by the battery. Mine has some other smaller relay there.

I can't imagine why the hell GM routed that system the way they did. The relays are in the driver's corner, when the sensors/switches are on the passengers side. Mind you this is on my 1990, yours could be different.
