is there a need to set valve lash on hydraulic roller motors

i ask this because i plan on getting a set of vortec heads

i'm not really too sure on how to set the valve lash..................

also what would be a good cam for the vortec heads

the car is a manual tranny and i am planning on putting in 4.10 gears sooner or later...................................

please keep in mind that i am looking for the most power these vortec heads and cam can give me............

and since its a roller motor what kinda roller rockers do i need?????????

Yes you need to set the valve lash.

It's the same whether you use roller rockers or not, or what kind of heads you use.

The cam that everybody seems to get the best results out of with those heads is the Comp XE268H. It's all the lift you can use, and has enough duration to get up into the RPM range to take advantage of their flow.

Replace the valve springs!!! The ones that come on those heads are replacement stock truck parts, not anything high-performance. They will not survive long with that cam, and will probably destroy it from coil bind. Use Comp 981 and the 742 retainers that go with them, they're what Comp will recommend for use with that cam.

Use Comp 1317 1.5 self-aligning roller rockers. You can't use 1.6s with those heads and that cam because that will be too much lift; and the heads are designed for SA rockers. They have pull-out studs and large holes, so they require the SAs. This has nothing to do with whether your block is equipped with the factory's Frankenstein roller system, or which design of lifters you choose to use.
