400 buildup
400 buildup
I was going through the archives a couple of weeks ago and stumbled upon a post where people were talking about a magazine article, (car craft, hot rod, I'm not sure) in which they made 460 horses out of a SB 400 with vortec cylinder heads. I didn't see any info about the cam, intake, carb in the post. I was wondering if anyone knows what they did to get that kind of power with the vortec heads. Thanks alot for any help

It's a no-brainer. stock 400 short block, those heads, a Comp XE268H cam, 1.5 self-aligning rockers, Performer RPM, Holley or Demon 750 or 850, large-tube (1¾") headers.
They only had to use an XE268 to get that much power? I thought that cam would only run up to about 5000-5200 RPM on a 400 c.i. If that's all the cam they needed, that thing must have been a sick torque monster! Thanks for your help!
