What is this vacuum line?

There is a vacuum line coming that connects to something on the side of the distributor in my car. It's a 305TPI by the way. Then it goes behind the distributor to the side of the fender and goes all the way to the front and splits. One end goes to the cruise control and the other end goes into an opening on the fender and heads toward the back of the car. Well anyway the hose is torn up really bad and my car runs like crap so could this be the problem?

Sounds like the vacuum lines for the egr solenoid, does it connect under the throttle body, and to the charcoal canister? It is pretty small, so that wouldn't really cause a big problem. If you think you've got a leak just spray some wd-40 or carb cleaner around the engine bay with the car idling and you'll know if you find one.

No thats not it. I know what hose your talking about. There are two lines hooked to the back of the plemun and the hose I'm talking about starts at one of them and goes behind the distributor then goes to the front drivers side of the car and splits. One piece goes to the cruise control and the other one goes into an opening on the fender next to the charcoal canister and heads towards the back of the car. I know there is a big vacuum leak because the hose has like 9 holes in it and one of them is like 1 inch long.

I don't see how a hole in that tiny little line would cause much trouble. Unless I'm thinking of something else, those lines you speak of are hard lines about half of a centimeter(if that) in diameter. That size leak, especially far away from the intake, would hardly be noticable. Replace it and look elsewhere for a fix. I'd suggest looking at the lines going into the throttle body, especially the one that hooks around underneath and connect to the charcoal canister.
