Not thirdgen - But where does Chrysler stick there obd connector?

Im thinking about upgrading my xray scanner to support my 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee, but I would like to find the connector first. On there diagram its pictured as being under the steering wheel to the left, but in the manual it says its near the engine. The only thing that I have found that might be it is a black plate with two bolts in it, it might be behind there. Before I rip everything apart, does anyone know where it would be?

They are generally in the engine compartment. If it's a '93, it may still be OBD-I, so you can code scane with the KOn-KOff sequence (On-Off-On-Off-On ) to access the error codes through the CHECK ENGINE light.

Being a '93, it's most likely a Chrysler 1 connector, which is under the hood. If memory serves me right, it's above the pass side fender well. If it's a Chrysler III connector, it is under the dash, some applications are next to the fuse box, some are dangling under the dash just to the right of the steering column.

If you don't find it soon, let me know and I can look it up for you!

And you have the easiest option, and that's like Vader put it, cycle key from off to on 3 times, and watch the MIL (Check engine light).

Good luck!

Thanks for the help. I think I might have found it. I attached a picture, I think its behind that black plate, but after I took the bolts off, it seems to almost be glued on. Im going to see about getting a shop manual in the next couple of days anyways to look some stuff up.

Im not getting any error codes, just having two small problems. One when I start the car, it chugs for about two seconds then starts fine. Im thinking maybie a bad battery or alt. Second, just the other day when I went to use the ac, the clutch goes on and off at random. Someone told me that temp sensors usually go bad. I just wanted to hook up the scanner to see whats going on, even if it might not help me. I actually used it to solve two major problems on my Camaro. It might be worth a try.

The connector will be more out in the open than that. They didn't try yo hide them. I'll look at work tomorrow, I think we have a Cherokee out there.

As for your problems, I'm not sure right off on the start-up problem, but how are all the tune-up parts? (Cap rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter) Also, do you mean it cranks over hard, or when it starts, it barely runs for the first couple seconds?

And the A/C sounds like it might just be a little low on refrigerant. That will cause the clutch to kick in and out and is more likely than a sensor.

oh thanks. I got the car in oct last year and put 10,000 miles on since. When I go to start, it just turns over for about two seconds then starts. It does it most of the time, except with warm it starts right aways. I changed the spark plugs last month, i'll have to check the fuel filter and cap rotor. The battery has "refurb" written all over it and was very low on water when I checked it, maybie its going bad. I have no idea when the ac was last serviced, it might be a good idea to have it serviced and see what happnes. Again, thanks.

I finally found it-it was sitting there in front of me the whole time I posted a pic for anyones future referance. Its in the center of the pic, tied to the big hose. I just didnt think they would have it laying out tied to a hose.
