I think my car is dying
I have an automatic 173cid '88 Camaro and I’m having a little problem. I just had a tune up and an entire lube change and my car is still acting up. When I accelerate I can fell the car going through the gears up until I reach about sixty. When I reach sixty the RPM's drop down to 1500 even with my foot to the floor. I try taking my foot of the gas and stomping on it with no luck. I tried pumping the gas with no luck. Is this an engine, Trans or diff problem? My mechanic says I should buy a new car but I don't want to. Does anyone have any info on how to correct this problem?

Flexplate?
Thanks for replying. Is the flex plate the sheild on the bottom of my trans? If so, how is this causing my problem?

Is the car jerking or hesitating...or does it just not kickdown in overdrive? a little more info would be helpful...
i think I would start checking the simple things before I started tearing my engine / tranny apart.
You say you just had a tune-up? Was the problem there before the tune-up?

Thank You for replying. Yes the problem was there before the tune up and lube job. The car is not jerking or hesitating, but your right it doesn't kickdown in overdrive.

I think you just found your problem, These 700r4 are VERY sensitive to fluid level.....they dont shift right if they are low. Try to see where it is leaking from...I assume it is leaking out right?
P.s. You may want to find a different mechanic, or better yet, educate yourself about your car and do the work yourself....once you do this, you will see why Mechanics charge so much.....
Let us know what you find out....yu must keep the tranny full..

trans fluid
The problem is that i don't see a leak. I figured if i'm losing a pint a week i would see a significant puddle, but i have yet to find a leak or a puddle.
