9 bolt in stock 1986 Trans Am?

I own a 86 TA with the WS6 suspension and disc rears. Out of curiousity, I crawled under my car and counted 9 bolts. I looked at the tech sheet that was posted and there is nothing listed about Trans Ams having the 9 bolt rear end. Does anyone know anything on this subject or if all trans ams w/ the WS6 setup cam standard with the 9 bolts?

I posted this under the wrong section and have reposted it under the drivetrain section. I tried removing it but found that I am powerless. Could a moderator please remove this post? thanks!

I believe that Pontiac has offered the 9 bolt since 1985.

You talkin' 'bout me?

My '86 has the 9-bolt Borg axle, with discs, with posi, with the rubber fill plug in the rear cover, and WITHOUT the 'C'-clips at the ends of the axles inside the differential side gears. Yes, it's stock, and quite a bit stronger than the Saginaw 10-bolt version. It's no 12-bolt monster or Ford (Dana) 9" axle, but its plenty strong for an 'F' car. If the RPO label in the console has a "G80" and "J65", you should have the Borg axle. Congratulations. If you break it, your gonna have a helluva time finding parts, though...

Not anymore www.9bolt.com

And it's been compared to a Dana 44 in terms of strength. The most common reason they break is because of worn out parts causing excessive backlash. I've been running a 9 bolt for almost 4 years behind my big block (500hp/520lbft) with no problems.

427,

Thanks for the link - You da MAN!

I'm keeping that one on hand, 4-sure.

EDIT: After seeing the site, I'm thinking you might want to talk to Dirk about a banner ad/sponsorhip. There are a LOT of Borg axles represented on the boards, and this is the first time I've even seen the link. (I guess I need to get out more often.) It could be a mutually beneficial arrangement.

I was going to post that this afternoon, but when I went to it at work, the **** filter blocked it.

I guess my boss doesn't want me shopping for 9 bolt parts while I'm on the clock.

Hey Miles, know much about shimming a used 3.27 BW 9bolt? My old 2.77 was TIGHT but the 3.27 with Spohn LCA brackets is almost a peg legger.

THX again.

BTW Brake Cone shim table a place to look?

OK (me being stupid!)
surfed the website, you got shims.
