Getting screwed over by a mechanic shop...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few months ago my car was acting up. It was dying when you hit the brakes too hard, and not starting too easily. So I bring it to a place to get it fixed.

They give it back a week later saying it's all fixed with a like $200 bill. I drive it home and it dies on the way. I brought it back to them and they looked at it again, and gave it back a week later saying its running great. Nope, I don't think they did anything to it, in fact it lost a lot of horsepower.

I bring it back again the next day, and they call me later and say it's going to need a new computer, $120 w/ installation. A month passes and they aren't making much progress so they call and tell me they are taking it to a guy next door to their shop to look at. They never tell me I am going to have to pay anymore than the original $120 estimate. Seeing as I've had to bring it back to them twice with ZERO progress, they shouldn't be charging me anymore.

They call me this morning, and say it's working. Total Bill: $350. I tell them to shove it up their ***, they only told me I'd have to pay $120 for a new computer AND labor. NOT ONCE did they tell me I'd have to pay any more than the original estimate.

Opinions?

Don't tell us - tell them. I would tend to agree, however, that you should have been informed of any additional charges before the work was performed. That's just good business practice. Ask for the old ECM, by the way.

Get your opinions and ideas quickly, since I may have to lock this soon due to its mostly non-technical nature. I'll chack back maybe tomorrow.
