water temp gauge

hey just got my water temp gauge,its a autometer phantom gauge,when i start the car the guage goes to max and stays there,after shutdown falls back down,whats the problem?
also to get the blue light ,is it just a simple change of the bulb,if so what bulb is it?thanks.

Is it electric or mechanical, and do you have the right sending unit?

It sounds like the 12v hot wire & temp sender wire are switched.

oh sorry bout that,its electrical,the sending unit came with it,ill check to make sure bout them wires,but im pretty sure they were in the right spot,also,can i buy them push in holders for my gauge pod anywhere?i broke one when i had to take my gauge pod back out,its the dual gauge pod for our cars,that go ontop the a pillar,thanks.
