Engine upgrades or blower??

What would be better addding a supercharger or getting new heads, camshaft, 1.6rr, and complete porting of intake?

I will have to pay to have it installed as I am not nearly comfortable doing this kind of work.

I figured the engine work with parts would run me around $2,700 and net me around 75-80hp.

The supercharger would be at least $2,500 plus install, how much would install be? What do you think it will give me, 125hp?

What route do you think would be better? If the supercharger is the better bang for the buck, is it not as safe, more likely to break down etc...

Thanks for any help!

Also, would my stock WS6 rear end be able to handle either? I wish I could get both, that would be awesome, but alot of money.

I'd say get SFCs, cam, heads, , I wouldn't go throwing on forced induction on a stock motor.

Last year I was quoted $2950 for a Vortech blower, $3500 installed. Low boost is okay with a stock motor as long as its in good shape. If it has high miles or has been abused I wouldn't do it. Your 9 bolt should handle it, but the trans would be questionable.

JGR,

The two are not mutually exclusive. If you install a charger, you should also plan on some engine work. A forged crank and rods would be a good start.

And since your '88 likely still has a MAF, it would be better for daily driving to convert to a speed-density ECM and 2 BAR MAP sensor with custom PROM to take full advantage of the blower at all speeds. The MAF ECM is going to get confused at higher RPM operation since it will reach maximum flow readings well before the WOT point of the TPS.
