gear ratio

I currently have a 3.08 gear ratio on my 91 camaro rs 305 m5. My max RPM on 4th gear is 3000 and 70 MPH. I would like to increase it to 4 or possibly 5000 RPM's. I am think of changing the ratio to 3.73 or 4.10. Do you have any suggeations on which one is better and if there is any other alternative besides and engine swap?

Thanks

just changing your rearend ratio will not instantly give you top speed

several things comeinto play.

In most case, a 3.42 or 3.73 is the best depending on mods and top end desired. See if you can find an old IROC rearend and swap the entire thing out.. then go from there.

If you want a 3.42, you could look at the 85-89 2.8 V6 Firebirds & Camaros with automatic transmissions. They got a 3.42/open/drum axle- and the axle is the same strength as a v8 axle of the same year.

Match your gears to your cam's powerband.
