Can get a big cam...

Hey,
Today so far all i have done is drive around town looking for the freakin GTA, cause he isn't home or the car is sold. Today is the day i prob bring it home :hail: . Anyway i've been lookin at some things and i've heard the 305 auto cam isn't the greatest. My neighbour got a comp. cam with .480 , and something like .300 duration i think is what he said. So would that cam out of a 327 fit in a 305? And are the lobes to big?

cams are not directly related to displacement (at least not factory cams)

But... the best cam for a 305 is a XE262 or XE256 comp cam.

Yes it will fit... and yes it is too big

That cam will make a stock, or near stock 305 into a mut.

It will probably end up suffocating the runners and making your 305 bog across the RPM range. It might not, but I would avoid the hassle in case it does.

well, what if i added some slp runners and ported the plenum? He'll sell me the cam, lifters, springs, for 100 bucks. They only have 4,000 km's on them.

BTW; just got back from lookingat the car. Gonna make the deal this week, and he's tunin' her up tomorrow and then he'll take me for a ride. He got 3.27 gears put in.

dont just buy any old cam that a friend had in his xyz motor

and especially don't buy a used cam.

best cam for a near stock 305tpi is a HR262-12 comp.

Ok hang on here though, this camshaft cam out of a 327? Why would you go from a roller cam to flat tappet? You would have to get different pushrods and it's not worth the effort. Do yourself a favour and buy a used or new LT1 cam and stuff that in the 305. That will yield the best results.
