Hyd. Rocker Noise
Hey all I am having a problem........The motor has 2000 miles on it and the rockers are adjusted to 0 lash and 3/4 turn. When I come up to 3000 rpm and the motor is still not up to running temp 180* I am getting a pecking in the valvetrain. When she gets good and warm then it will go away. Its pretty loud. I am using the crane full roller rockers, LT4 Cam, and Factory Lifters.
Any Ideas

Do you think? I just don't feel like its a spark knock it is going away when the oil gets good and warm. I am begining to wonder if I have a lifter thats bad? Ede keep the ideas coming if you truly think I will try the timing I will........I am at 12* with 93 oct.

Well Morley you are right however there is nothing factory about the car left. There is no computer, No smog......nothing. This is a time I have to think OLD School!!!!!
Still might want to try backing off the base timing to maybe 8 and see if that helps. If not it was quick and easy to check. Get a mechanic's stethiscope and start listening to the engine at each lifter position, if there is a sticking lifter you'll pinpoint it easily.
Given the set up I would tend to agree, check ignition timing first. Depending on the advance springs you are probably hitting full advance around 3000RPM. I don't have an explanation for it off hand but some engines will detonate when cold and straighten up warm. As an experiment you may try taking some of the timing out and slowing the advance curve. I have seen temperature sensitive lash adjustments with some brands of hydraulic lifters but the factory lifters should be fine. The only other thing I can think of is to recheck your lash if you have haven't done so since this problem came up. It isn't uncommon to have the rocker nuts/locks/etc back off, even using aftermarket parts.
