hard to start
Hard to Start. Please Help.
I've got a 5.7 TPI 1988 Iroc-Z that I have to crank much longer than I probably should to start.
If I let the car sit for several days, the first time I try and start it, it fires immediately. If I've been running it, and it's still at operating temp, it fires immediately.
If it starts to cool down, or sits overnight, it doesn't seem to really ever "fire", it just cranks until until the RPMs are over 500, then I can let off the starter and it'll idle. I can smell gas when it starts like this. None of the plugs seem to be overly fouled. I've had it in the shop half a dozen times for this and I've had the MAF sensor replaced twice, had the "computer" (ECM ?) replaced, and have had most of the wiring checked.
Has anyone experienced anything like this or have any ideas on what the problem can be?
Thanks in advance for the assist,
Eres

Eres,
The protracted cranking could be a result of the fuel pump not priming, but that normally causes harder starts after the engine has been sitting for a couple of days, not the other way around.
Try a fuel pressure test to determine if the injectors are leaking down.
