problem starting

i'm having a problem starting the car...obviously. the key won't turn even when it's engaged (door open making that beeping sound) and it takes a lot of force to get it going. any ideas on how to fix this problem? i'm clueless. thanks in advance.

Is your shifter pressed all the way into park? It sounds like it's stuck in gear, or thinks it is.
