Computer Timing problems...
I have a problem setting my timing. I have an 88 305 TPI. The problem started when I replaced the distributor (stock original) with an MSD probillet for late models. This distributor has the same style module connections as my old distributor (8 pins) but The problem is as follows.
when I set the timing to 6DBTDC it idles ok but then when I rev the motor the timing does not advance much and stumbles as a result.
so far I have tried replacing the Distributor module the ESC (knock) module, the knock sensor and the computer. I have checked to see that the balancer ring has not slipped and when I set the timing I have unpluged the EST wire.
I am truly at a loss for what to do next after throwing so many parts at this problem.
Any Ideas as to why my timing is so F**ked up are perfectally welcome.
Thanks

man I wish I could...
but the stocker is long gone and was trashed although I should have saved it seeing as how this one seems to be worse...
I dont think it is the distributor though I would be hard pressed to tell you why...
Isnt there a separate module (from the ecm) that controls advance?? isnt this what you are unplugging when you disconnect the EST wire?? I think that this module (if it exists) is what I need to replace.
oh well... any other suggestions?

if there is anyone that has had any problem setting their timing even after unpluging their est wire please tell me how you did.
The timing just wont advance. it only advances like 10 degrees when reved and the timing is the same wether or not the est is connected. this leads me to believe that there is some other component controling the computer advance other than ones that I have replaced.
I found another thing in the dash called a 4 out buffer. its yellow and has a circuit board inside with like 6-7 wires coming out. could this be part of the ignition??
uhhhaaaa!
I welcome all help so please dont be shy with suggestions.
and if you dont understand my problem -- say so and I will do my best to help clarify.
