Code 43

Car threw a code 43 today as well as a code 46 (V.A.T.S.)the other day(car wouldn't start for 20 minutes). Haynes says code 43 is 1 of the following Poor electrical connection, open or short in circut, defective esc module, defective knock sensor, defective ECM. My car has had a miss for over a year and I have not been able to fix it. Could a defective esc module or a knock sensor cause a miss. After the ses light came on the car was extremely sluggish. I shut the car off when we got home and started it a few minutes later, it seemed fine i proceeded to beat the sheyaat out of it and it performed ok.So since 3 of the possible causes of an ses trigger are the same for code 43 and code 46(Poor electrical connection, open or short in circut, defective ecm) do you guys think my ECM could be on its way out?How can you check to see if the knock sensor or the ESC module are performing correctly?

You can also get a 43 if you forget to plug the bypass connector back in after you set the timing.
