Car wont start when hot... help
Since the summer hit, i've been having a re-occuring problem with the car not starting while hot. Whenever the temp guage gets over 200* it will turn over really slow, or not at all, as though the battery were dying. Once i sit there for about 20 minutes and let it cool back down to about 180* it'll start up just fine. I run a lot of timing and i know that isn't helping anything, and it does start a bit quicker when i knock it back down, but the car runs like crap until i bump it back up.
My guess is that the new Advance Auto parts POS starter i have in there is getting heat soaked (i do have headers) and simply doesn't have enough power to turn the engine over. I can see little puffs of smoke coming out from it's round-about location when i'm trying to start it while hot.
Could be the alternator, or possibly the battery going dead... or is it the POS starter that i bought?
thanks for the help...

Probably just the starter. I had that happen when we first installed my 383. The cylinder pressure got too high when the engine heated up, and the starter just couldnt turn the crank. So either your starters just bad, or the heat is causing excessive cylinder pressures and requires a high-torque starter.
