do i have a posi?
do i have a posi?
I just bought a 86 IROC does anyone know if it came with a posi or not? it's automatic and i know the gear ratio is 2:73 but i wanted to know if i had a posi. Thanks.
You might have a 2.73 or a 2.77. Check the number of bolts on the rear axle cover. 10-bolts is a Saginaw rear, 9-bolts is a Borg-Warner. The BW units were all limited slip, and the Saginaws could be either way. Check the RPO label for the G80 code, or look at the tag on the right side tube of the rear axle for the codes.
You could also remove the differential case cover, drain the oil, and look for cone clutches. Then clean out the case, install the cover and gasket, and pump in new oil. But that would be a lot like service, which is what I would do to a car that I just got.
