would a busted timing light

NOT light up when u hook it up to a power source? I borrowed a friends timing light, and i'm trying to adjust my timing for the first time. A yes or no answer would really help me out.

If it the bulb or the wiring inside is damaged then no I wouldn't think it would light up.

It's gotta have a trigger. Most are inductive... ei it has a lead that clamps over a wire (#1 spark plug wire) and can tell through the insulation that there's current going through it to trigger the light. But some have to be plugged inline with the sparkplug. You did hook up the trigger lead as well as the power and ground leads, right?

yes i did. i hooked up one of the clamps to the number one spark plug wire. I pushed the button and nothing happened. I started the car to see if that would do anything and no light or anything.
