Noise from front of engine
I noticed today a noise coming from the timing cover, it gets faster/slower with rpm. i ran the engine without the water pump belt for a few seconds to make sure it wasn't the water pump making the noise. the timing set is a double roller i put on a few months ago. i listened for the noise with a piece of tubing, the noise is the same by the cam gear and crank gear but is a lower pitch by the crank gear.
i suspect maybe the cam gear loosened up and is wobbling. i think i'm gonna pull the timing cover off tomorrow and have a look. any ideas what could be wrong?

well i fixed it, two of the cam sprocket bolts loosened up. now since putting everything back together i'm getting a new noise. i only hear it when i'm at half throttle or more and only when in any gear, it won't do it in neutral or with the clutch disengaged. kinda sounds like something's loose and is rattling against metal. i hope the t5's not takin a dump on me already

Service removeable LocTite (242) on the cam sprocket bolts is always a good idea to prevent that sort of problem.
Good luck on tracking down the new noise. You might try raising and blocking the car securely to test your transmission and drive line theory.

I don't have a cat so it's not that. I thought it could possibly be the muffler because it was making a different noise for a while a few weeks ago but then stopped. Guess I'll keep looking.
