don't need a key to start....
Hey guys,
as the title says, I no longer need the key to start the car, I just turn the *** and it turns over, is there anyway to fix this without replacing the whole dang thing?
Thanks!
Ben

two possibilities:
a) the internal components of the ignition lock cylinder are worn out. to fix, replace the ignition lock cylinder assembly. new aftermarket ignition cylinder around $20 at most parts stores.
b) ignition lock cylinder assembly is staying mechanically locked. but the entire cylinder assembly is rotating in the plastic steering column housing.
of the two possibilities, the first is the most likely cause of the problem.
even if the cause of the problem turns out to be the second cause, it's probably a good idea to replace the lock cylinder while you've got the steering column apart anyways. new cylinders are cheap, and on a 20 year old car, the one currently in the car is going to be well worn.
