inaccurate fuel gauges

my fuel gauge is an absolute joke, when full it goes an inch past the F mark but at empty it's 1/2 below E, and it jumps when i accelerate ... =/

is there any sort of aftermarket gauge that is more accurate ?

thx

Welcome to the wonderful world of 10 year old gas guage sending units. Every thirdgen I've seen has a wacko gas gauge and no one has bothered to replace them because they're so expensive.

It's a design issue as well as an age issue.

Yup! In the owners manuel for my 84, it actually states "gas gauge reads accuratly only under load." So, it jumps around from dead stop to cruising speed.
