160* thermostat... i didn't f it up did i?
Hey guys. My car was running really hot a couple weeks ago (like 210-240*), and the 195* thermostat was only 5 months old... but it was the most likely cuplret. I wanted it to run much cooooler, as it is a summer car year round-- (in MA for may - > august, FL from august-> may) so it is in hot & humid conditions a lot. My father and I decided a 160* termostat is the way to go. Replaced it, no problems, runs great, feels like it may even be a little bit more kick to her now. (temperature now runs b/t 150 and 170... fixed that problem.)
But, my buddy got me worried when he started saying he read something somewhere about you can't just change the thermostat over like that.... The engine is an LG4... carbeurated, so i figured there wouldn't be any computer complications......
So i figured i'd come on here and clarify with you people who are entirely too knowledgable for your own good and make sure i didn't just commit a big boo-boo.
Is the 160 Thermostat OK in the LG4 without any tweaking otherwise?
Thanks,

Thanks,
i dont see why not i had a 160 in my LO3 TBI and it ran fine. i changed it because it took FOREVER to heat up (this was winter) now i have a 180 with a hypertech cool fan switch...radiator/waterpump is new so it stays very cool
nah u didn't screw anything up. there are many people here with 160* thermostats, u may have a slight decrease in gas millage, but thats to be expected when making more power (im talking in general here, not saying a 160*therm will make more power).. but i personaly recomend a 180*..
oh and a 160* really want do much without a fan switch to kick the fans on earlier
