What happens if I don't have an O2 sensor?

Ok I'm not getting much help on the Exhaust board...

I want to put in long tube headers and dual exhaust. However I am wondering what happens when there is no O2 sensor in the setup? Do I have to modify the header to accept one? Can I run correctly w/o the sensor? Whats up?

Do you have a computer running the engine? If so, then yes you need the o2 sensor.

On the exhaust board, you didn't ask, "What happens if I don't have an O2 sensor?" You asked, "Who has long tubes?". Completely different question.

You need to have an O2 bung welded into one of the collectors to accept the O2 sensor. A heated-type sensor is a good idea since it will be farther away from the engine than it was before.

Your real problems are going to be A.I.R. tubing on the headers (nobody sells long tubes with them for 3rd gens), and a y-pipe to get the exhaust over to the cat in the factory location (rumor has it that Mufflex sells such an animal - never seen it myself). In emissions-happy, tree-hugging California (okay, not any worse than emissions-happy, tree-hugging Colorado), those two issues are going to be your biggest hurdles for a street-registered car.

It helps to ask the right question. It would also be wise to follow the advice given you on the exhaust board and run emissions-legal shorties. But, you didn't ask that question...

Yes you're right. I thought of it after and then figured I'd get more and faster help here.

And I won't have the a.i.r. tubes or y-pipe or any of that junk. I want to put true duals on (the reason I really want long tubes). It will be getting registered in Nevada and emissions free.

Is getting the O2 sensor bung put in easy? Hard?

Thanks guys.

I would have a machine shop do it, also don't go too far downstream or the sensor make take too long to heat up.
