Can I drive without my smog pump?
I have the V belt system in my 87, and I just removed my A/C yesterday so I am running on 3 belts now, I am wondering what would happen if I removed my smog pump belt??? Can I run without it, I know all it does it send air through your exaust, but what will happen if I don't have it connected, I just want to run off 2 belts
My friend said I would be fine runnign wihtout it, just have to put the belt back on when I go to emissions.
can someone answer my question?

Well my belt came off( how I have no clue) drove around with it like that for 2 years. Moved to Texas, failed the E check, put the belt back on, and passed with flying colors
So to answer your question: not a damn thing
BTW mines also an 87 TPI

My smog pump currently has no belt running to it as well. I posted a topic last week about smog pump removal, and the consensus seemed to be that if you get the right belts, the pump can be removed all together.
