new msd 6A, car dies while checking timing

i got a new MSD 6A a couple of days ago for my trans am, but the engine isn't done yet so i put it it the 6 banger camaro for now just for $hits and giggles. it runs great now, except that today i tried to check the timing. i disconnected the EST, tried to start it,but it ran for a split second then died. it did this a couple of times, then i put my foot on the gas a little while cranking. it shoots right up to 3000 rpm, revs fine, but the second it comes down to 1000 rpm it dies. it doesn't sputter, hesitate, choke, misfire, it just shuts off like i turned off the key. anyone have any ideas?

did you read the instructions that came with it? all the msd ignition boxes i ever saw you had to cut a wire to make it work for a v6, and after you cut it you can't put it back together. might want to look over the instructions again and see if you missed something.

i read the instructions, and they said the 6A works on a v6 right outta the box. it's on the box with a rev limiter that you have to cut a wire so you can use the rev limiter. the thing that i dont understand about this problem is that the car runs perfect. starts right up, idles good when the est is connected, but it dies the second it hits 1000 rpm with the est disconnected.help!

guess i've never fooled with one without the rev limiter. can you unhook the msd and time it?
