Actually, now that I think about it, an alternative method would simply be to leave the car in neutral and put a brick on the accelerator. Once the engine reaches high enough RPM, it should toss the belt. I wouldn't suggest standing anywhere near the engine compartment though, because you might get hit by it (or by flying internal engine parts).

Couple this with the fact that you were one of the people advocating the 'cut the trunk floor' method of fuel pump removal and all doubt should be removed about your qualifications to 'help' people work on their cars.
Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.

bah. I'd rather have ***** to ask a question than to use another "handle" to ask things like people have been doing for years now. I've pryed the tensioner with a crowbar a couple times. Ooo I didn't know to use a 1/2" drive, big deal. I don't claim to know all. I'm ignorant on a lot of things. If I need to know, I ask. If I'm wrong on something, tell me.

Bottom line, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. We are here to LEARN and share our knowledge. I am positive EVERYONE has picked up a little "tid bit" from this board that was probably obvious to EVERYONE yet they never even knew it themselves.
How many people know how to "pick the lock" on the wire leads to the ECM connector? It's really simple if you play with it, yet MOST guys just "cut and splice" and never figure out that it takes only a couple of seconds to "pick the lock" of the wire lead and then you just re-pin it to the proper connector when you do a 165 to 7730 ECM swap. To do all the wires takes less than 15 minutes. Hell, you can't "cut and splice" in that amount of time.
If you are really THAT car illiterate (wich is sad since you are a moderator on this site) and you are replacing the belt anyway why not just cut it off? then all you will have to post is the thread asking how to put the new one back on.....
... could also try reading the owners manual or perhaps go into autozone and check out that section in a hanes manual? i dunno im just throwing out ideas here...

As mentioned by someone else, at least Tas isn't afraid to ask a question in his own name. What is really sad, are the moderators that THINK they know what they are talking about and haven't got a clue what's going on. But, as I said before - a moderator's duty is NOT to answer questions, it's to maintain orderly control.
And just because you ARE the smartest person about cars doesn't meen you would make a good moderator either.

i feel bad for any newbies that now feel too embarassed to ask simple stuff...........
if he didnt know how to take off a belt then oh well
but dont hang the man

ok so then what is the official number of posts allowed before you arent allowed to ask simple questions.......i just want to know so i can keep an eye on my posts........
or is it just being a moderator that makes it like that
even though it was stated that a moderaters job is not to know everything but to simply regulate the boards
i give him props for admitting that he didnt know something like that
to the rest of you that flamed him..........shame shame

i think it was the whole him being a moderator thing that set people off. I guess everyone has the preconception that all moderators are supposed to be certified gm techs or something and not like the rest of us and dammit, why is this still open? It just keeps coming back to the top.

Because, goddammit, if you can't figure out how to take the serpentine belt off, then you need to pick another hobby. It really is that easy.

But I do use the breaker bar method to install the belt.
