Umm Help Please.....

I bought my 92 z28 with these two 5.7 emblems on the side... so i figure its been a 350 ever since... and i just ran my VIN # for hte hell of it, it shows that i have a 5.0 TPI!

Can someone tell me how to tell the difference between a 5.0 engine LB9 and a 5.7 engine L98....

Now i am curious if i have the original motor....

look at the 8th digit of your VIN number. if its an 8, then its an L98. if its an F, its an LB9

there should be numbers stamped somewhere on the block, you can use them to ID the engine, post them here someone will be able to tell you

The only difference is the smaller bore, besides a few other things such as the knock sensor, est, injectors. Your engine is just less powerful than the larger engine, but not by that much. It's still a decent engine.

Someone has to know where i can find an engine number from just opening the hood... i hope

I am puttin the car up for sale, so i want to make sure if the motor is original or if a 5.7 was put in after, cause i bought the car and it had 5.7 badges on both sides in front of the doors, and i HOPE no one can be dumb enough of own a thirdgen and not know if they had a 5.0 or 5.7

Thanks guys.... and the odometer was rolled back in 1998, and sold at an auction, there is no way i can trace that

i guess its time for me to get off this board Its been great guys, but i dont have the money for another thirdgen, and maybe next summer i might get lucky with a 2002 SS. But hey, its been great, and i've learned alot from this place, i'll still be around to look at all the beautiful cars and learn some more.

One more thing, anyone know if there are boards for 4rth gens? I'd like to start learning about some LS1's...

Not to many fourth gen boards. Try searching on Google. The casting number should be right on top of the block. Thats where mine is.

Im not quite sure but the numbers are about 1/2 inch in size. It should be somewhere on the block or on the back of it. I will search the board to see what I can find.

The casting number will be on the rear of the engine just below the dist. It's 8 or 9 numbers long.

Hey man, sorry to see you leave. But about that it would be crazy if an owner didn't know if it was a 305 or a 350. Mine didn't I just figured out it was a 305. But the engine casting numbers should be like on the drivers side half way back, below the heads. Sorry if Im wrong. But also, an excellent place for 4th gen F-bods, is LS1.com. They have a crazy "Almost anything Goes" section, but some good tech too. But the great tech site has to be LS1tech.com. Anyways, later man, and I hope you soon come back to the light of owning a thirdgen... BTW, clean car man.
