Had to replace my A.I.R. tube (Passenger side)

Had to, I live in Illinois.....

Mine had broke off at the threads right where the check valve threads onto the AIR tubes.... How...beats me.

Needed a fast/temp fix til I could get it done right.
Did the JB weld thing (I was in a hurry) - didn't work anyway. (that stuff is worthless!)
Did the muffler repair stuff....wrapped that sucker in a cast....didn't work.

Finally got the time and ordered a new tube assy from the GM folks.

Total cost - $20.77.

Listen guys.....these things are a BEAR!

Had to cut the old ones off, took 2 hours to get the 4 threaded tips out of the exhaust manifold. Took another 3 to get the new one threaded back on. There is no room on the passenger side anyway and doing work there in simply a pain in the ***!

For guys who want/have to replace theirs:

1. Hacksaw the old one off as close to the manifold as possible. then use a 9/16 socket to remove the 4 remaining parts from the exhaust manifold. (WD-40 them for several days first.)
Do NOT use pliars or vise grips, these things are easily bent and could break off in your manifold!

2. Take the air pump thing off....not the pump itself, its the black plastic thing all the rubber hoses attach to. It'll give you an extra couple if inches of work space. Its attached to the rear of the smog pump via a pipe and only has 2 bolts.

3. Once its all off, re-tap the holes where the air tubes were threaded into the manifold. This eases the re-install.

4. Slide the new tube assy in to place. I put mine in from the bottom.

5. Tighten it back into place. This is what took the most time because all the tubes are in the way....
You'll have to use a 9/16 open end wrench and you have very little space to work with.

Re-install the air pump thing, install the check valve to the AIR tube assy, and re-attach all the hoses.

Just so ya know....
