new here with a question

Could I hope to find a decent 3rd gen camaro V8 with A/C for under 3k?

I own a 96 accord, my sister just totalled her old volvo... i'm thinking about givin her my car, takin the money she gets, and buying a domestic... should i be able to find something in the price range? anything i should look for/avoid in 3rd gens?

Something about mods that only were adding 1 to 2 hp just wasn't sitting well with me... plus working on the car was a bitch

sure, my car only set me back 2k. dont expect to find a 3rd gen with a 350 or low milage for under 3k though. mine has about 129,000 on the clock with the LG4. ive seen nice LB9 cars for around 3k beofre. they shouldnt be too hard to find.....

i'm not as concerned with low mileage as i am with it having AC (~100 outside today) and it running. Engine swap could come later, I just want something to work on for now.

what year would be best performance/reliability wise in that price range?

the best performance is any 3rd gen with a 350 or some would argue an LB9 car with a 5 spped and the G92 option. also, you have to keep in mind reliability doesnt always come with a newer car. you could find a 92 z28 that has been abused to hell or you could find an 85 that has been babied and well maintained......

This forum is fine but you would probably find a ton on information on the search engine with what to look for and what not to look for. Also look at some of the Tech articles. The reason they were written was because it was a pretty common issue and a lot of people needed to know the answer.

Things to look for are leaks of any kind (oil, coolant, tranny, rear) Also speaking for a friend look hard at the oil and make sure it isnt too think because of a bearing problem. Also look for rust make sure the body is straight and no or not a ton of bondo. The obvious things really. But like stated above search away on this website there are an abundant amount of resources here and they are all willing to help if done/asked right. Good luck and happy hunting you will be very happy when you finally find that one car that is right. Of course it better be a 3rd gen.
