Is my machine shop BS'ing me??
I have a 350 out of an 87' iroc. As we all know they are a 2 bolt main. He recommended using "main straps". He said this will increase the strength of the bottom end. Its basically just a 1/4" thick piece of steal bolted to the end of the caps.
Is this true or is he just trying to screw me outta some cash?
Thanks

you mean a girddle? how does what he's talking aobut bolt to the caps? like a windage tray? i'd say either you don't understand what he's telling you or he's trying to seperate you from your money.
The straps are/were a way to beef up a 2 bold main and they do the job ok, but since (whoever it was) came out with the splayed 4 bolt caps in a kit that replaces your 2 bolt caps the straps are no longer used much or desired. If you have the engine in the machine shop anyway, and want to build serious power with it, then get one of the splayed 4 bolt cap kits.
