How does this hook up? (picture)
Okay, I'm having trouble hooking up my EGR solenoid on my L98 (89 IROC). I've attached and labled a picture, so look at the letters to see what I'm talking about...
Okay, first off, I'm only guessing that X connects to Y--originally, though, X came out of the wiring harness and wasn't connected to anything. Z (the one that goes under the hand) is not connected to anything right now.
On the EGR solenoid, it looks to me like there's three places to hook something up (the electrical plug [A] as well as B and C, which look like vacuum hoses might connect to them). But I'm not too sure about B and C--B has a funky looking bracket around it, and C almost looks like something broke off of it (It could have happened when I was taking everything apart a few months ago). A obviously looks like a very common electrical connector, but I've looked and can't find any connectors like that laying around. Any ideas where that connector is supposed to come from?
So, basically, I don't know where anything goes back here.
If you could lend a hand and tell me what should hook up to what (i.e. "X goes to Z"), that would be a big help. This is my first engine rebuild: there's probably about 20 things that could go wrong when I try to start it for the first time, and I don't want a vacuum hose problem to be one of them...
Thanks

Well the "Z" end will hook up to the side of the plenum. As far as the EGR solenoid is concerned... there's only two hoses you need to worry about. It's been a while since I removed mine so I dont exactly which one is which but I DO know this.
The EGR solenoid has TWO ports. ONE will up front to the throttle body and will hook up to a nipple right underneath it. THE OTHER will hook up to the big round EGR valve right underneath the plenum.
Other than that it looks like everything else is in place and the Z end just needs to be hooked up to the plenum.

You mean that there are only *two* vacuum tubes total that come out of the EGR solenoid (I was thinking that there were four total: two on front and two on back)? If that's the case, then they're already hooked up!
You can't see it from the picture, but those two tubes come out on the back side of the solenoid. I did connect those to the EGR valve and throttle body already.
I guess that the two places that I'm showing (B and C) don't hook up to anything, then?
Also--just to confirm--Z is the one that goes to the plenum and not Y, right? Because it looks like it could just as easly go the other way.
Thanks

There should be two wires (in a single plug) that goes into the back of the solenoid and the two vacuum hoses go to the front. Normally there us an "L" shaped connector (made of rubber) that will go onto the solenoid and the plastic hoses connect to it. You need this or regular vacuum hose between the solenoid and the plastic hoses to ensure a good seal. The Hose from the EGR valve goes to the top vacuum nipple and then the other one goes, well, to the other. I just got through replacing my solenoid (about 10 minutes ago) so that is why I know. Hope all goes well with the rest of your work. Good luck!
