Help with daily driver, 92 Corsica...

The car has about 120000 miles on it, and for the most part it drives well, but sometimes when i'm slowing down in it, the car will get kind of rough, and once i stop, it stalls. When it does this, it won't start agian for at least an hour. The car isn't overheating, or at least the guage says its not. It doen't do it all the time. Would a tuneup help the situation, or is something just out of adjustment. I know i'm not giving a whole lot of info here, but any help is appreciated. I'll try to answer any questions you guys might have as best as i can...

Thanks,
Eric

Once upon a time...

I had the same problem on my '89 Corsica. It would occasionly idle rough and stall at idle. I did a lot of research and fixed several unrelated problems* with no result. Turned out there's a design flaw on MPI cars. The lower intake plenum seal will leak after 100,000 miles or so. The air leak reaks havoc with the computer and causes the rough idle. As it gets worse expect to have to restart the car at every stop light.

*Has your computer thrown any codes? Do a check and see if you get the Self Diagnostic code 12. My computer craped out at 120,000 miles too. It would run, but very bad.

I just ran the codes, it flashed once, then twice, then 6 times, then 6 times, and continued to repeat flashing 6 times.

Where should i be looking for the TC connector?

Hopefully it's not the gasket, but if it is, at least i'll know whats going on, and eventually i will fix it.

Any other comments? what about the codes that came up?

Eric

If you got a code 6 6,it lists as ECM circuit problem or trany 3-2 shift control solenoid-circuit problems(could be what ede said).

Are you sure it continued to repeate 6 6? Eventualy it should have started over at 1 2. Let the diagnostic cycle completely. It should start with 1 2 and end with 1 2.

Thanks ede, didn't quite pick that up there.

I let the diagnostic run for about 2 minutes, it just kept flashing 6 6. I thought it should have gone back to 1 2, but it didn't seem like it was going to. When i've run the codes on my camaro in the past it has only flashed the trouble code a couple times and then gone back to the other code. The tranny 3-2 shift solenoid almost makes sense, because when it happens it seems like the car is still in high gear trying not to stall when i'm almost aat a stop. When i put the car in nuetral it's ok.

Thanks for the help guys, now i just gotta go track down the connector and see if can't fix this thing.
