Front rotor changing question

I am getting ready to change my rotors in front and was wondering if I had to re-pack bearings and swap out the wheel mount studs or if it was simpler than that. I have changed lots of brakes before but never rotors. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Eric

Well first off, if you have them out already, and you will, it's always a good idea to repack your wheel bearings. Both the inner and outer. The outer wheel bearing is often overlooked. I assume you know how to repack them. Put a nice glob of grease in the palm of your hand, yadda yadda yadda . If i remember correctly, i didn't have to replace my studs because they were in pretty good shape and came out of the old rotors no problem. Just make sure when you swap them onto the new rotors to take one of your lug nuts and thread it all the way down and tighten it pretty tight. This will pull the stud through the new rotor. Remove the nut and repeat it 4 more times. Then just remember to put things back on in the right order . Don't do what i did and forget to put the cotter pin back on. Luckily i didn't drive on it like that. I caught it Before i put the cap back on. Good luck. It's an easy job and actually fun. Any questions let me know here or through e-mail.

Yeah, you have to take the bearings out. Id replace them, they're not expensive. You'll need the outter bearings I believe. The studs you dont have to worry about.

He'd only need to replace them if they're excessively worn or gritty. Which they shouldn't be unless they have been run dry. Not expensive but still thats money in the "project account"

Make sure you get new grease seals. They don't come with the rotors and the bearings won't live without them.

I always put a glob of grease on the spindle. I also wip off the old grease. Just remember to keep things clean. I use gloves, just because it is easier to clean up!!
