do I have to remove the steering wheel to get ignition switch?
do I have to remove the steering wheel to get ignition switch?
hey
I think the prob. with my car is the ignition switch.
I have ran a search, but I am a little unclear about this.
everything I have found says the ignition switch is on the top left at the base of the steering colum, however, it does not say if I need to remove the wheel or not.
so do I?
thanx

no, you do not.
It sits on top of the steering column, about 5 or 6" from the firewall. it's held on by 2 screws, 1/4" IIRC. There's a rod that goes all the way from the lock cyl down to the switch.

You have to drop the column to get that bastard out though.. you take that plastic piece out from under the column and then look under it.. there are 2 bolts that hold it up.. loosen those up and don't let the column hit you in the head (it sorta hurts) then disconnect the wires that go into the switch.. and take the 2 screws that hold the switch on.. I couldn't figure out how to get that wire out of that plastic thing on the side.. so I just pulled the old ignition switch down.. screwed off that plastic piece (the one that wires goes totally through) and screwed it onto the new switch.. put everything back together and no more ignition switch problems...
