New guy... Got a few questions
New guy... Got a few questions
Hey, I'm Tony. I've got an '83 mustang 5.0 that I love to death.... But its past owners abused it to hell and I cant afford to keep it running anymore.
I'm seriously considering getting a camaro... I'll always be a 5.0 fan, but for now I want a quick car that wont break down on me every week... And I love camaros
But what camaro should I get? I'd prefer a 5spd w/ a 350... but from what I'm told none were made like that. My budget is also >$4000... Probably less depending on how much I can get for my stang
How is the aftermarket? I know mustangs have the biggest performance part aftermarket... But how does the chevy aftermarket compare?
Oh yeah... This is kinda a stupid question but what the hell... A few days ago I saw a pre '93 camaro with what looked like vette tailights. Does someone offer a kit for that conversion, or was it custom made? It looked so sweet.
Thanks a lot

Hey Tony, welcome to the board.
I am not sure about the vett, but as far as the aftermarket I have found it to be great. Most catalogs out there list items for 82-92 camaro's (thirdgen f-bodies) with pretty much any part you will ever want or need. As for anything custom I am sure eveyone here would be more than happy to help you out. I am not an expert or anything but I dont recall any thirdgen's that were made w/ a 5spd and a 350 I know you can get IROC models that have a 350 in them but they came stock w/ an automatic. Not a huge deal in my opinion, it just gives you a chance to swap in a nice t-56 =].
hope this helps,
Ben

Aftermarket parts are abundant in the land of SBC. Chevy did it right with the small blocks and almost everything is interchangeable the only thing that is not interchangable are small journal cranks as far as engine performance mods go.
As far as the price of a used 3rdgen thier fairly cheap and Ive seen quite a few TPI's that either went a 305 to 350 or auto to 5speed swap selling for around 4K in the local market and these are very clean rides.
Edit: GM did all thier V8's right!
BBC's are completyely interchangeable excluding pistons.
