84 TA loses power at 3500 rpm's
I have noticed that my 84 TA with a lg4 stock has been bogging down when i put my foot in it then recovers with good power (for a lg4) today it does it at around 3500 rpms and doesnt want to recover it even died once doing 45 mph all i did was kick it down a little it bogged and died but it started right back up. I went the rest of the way home kept it under 3000 rpm and it ran good I get it past that and it want to die. Im thinking maybe the cats are pluged or the carb has really messed up or maybe a bad censer. Im getting no lights and all gauges read good. does anyone have any ideas what could be causeing this.
iF YOU think the cat is plugged, hook up a vacuum guage to manifold vacuum, and see how much vacuum you have at idle, then take the rpm up to about 2500, let it come back down. watch the guage, if the cat is plugged, it will take some time to reach the original vacum reading at idle. You may need to rev the engine higher than 2500.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I was having a problem a few months ago where my '83 T/A was having problems at 3-3.5K RPM's. All it took was checking/replacing the vacuum hoses connected to the carb, and now it's fine. You might wanna start with that...cheap way to begin troubleshooting. Good luck.

something new
well I really cant tell by holding my hand over the exhaust because my muffler is so bad that the exhaust is coming out in about 100 different places (I should have mentioned that I already tryed that, sorry) so im am going to, and tried to check the vac and when i turned the car around to do that and pulled it back in the garage and gas started to run out underneath it form what looks like a blowed diaphragm on the fuel pump. So maybe that is the whole problem or maybe just one more problem.SO SENSE I HAVE TO CHANGE THE FUEL PUMP should I put a certain one on to help performance or is a fuel pump just a fuel pump. I will change it tomorrow when i can get a new one and get back with you guys and let you know how it runs. Thanks so much for all of your post. and Im laid off right now but when i get back to work I am going to get a new exhaust from the headers to the muffler. THANKS AGAIN
