The late Lt-1/ LT-4 heads are of a reverse cooling design and do not work on other conventional small blocks.
Any of the other heads will work with flat top pistons.
If you have domed pistons then piston dome to head clearance may need addressing on some heads.
The L-98 heads have good performance potential if you're
willing to put the work into them. (porting valves etc)
"081,083, 217 are the castings to look for.
The "swirl port" type heads should be avoided for a performance motor.
